CREATING UNIQUE BIRDHOUSES FOR THE ARTS COUNCIL
In the time of major provincial cutbacks, the Campbell River Community Arts Council needs to generate enough funds to continue the programs already in place. Yes, the dreaded fundraising. In the months of March, April, and May we are asking local artists to help us raise money by creating unique birdhouses to be auctioned off at a Champagne & Dessert Evening at Impressions on June 17th.
We have had a craftsman construct 20 wooden birdhouses. You may choose to use one of these birdhouses to serve as a base for your fantasy birdhouse. There are 3 styles to choose from: A. a small regular birdhouse, B. a diamonded-shaped birdhouse, C. a larger regular birdhouse. You can choose to create a birdhouse with your own medium (stain glass, pottery, metal, fabric, mosaic, etc.) and not use one of the wooden birdhouses.
While searching the Net, I have found birdhouses that have been decorated as lighthouses, Noah’s ark, dog houses, famous buildings, windmills, the old woman’s shoe, a pagoda, gingerbread house, etc. I really liked the first three websites under ‘crazy birdhouses’. Ideas are limitless.
The majority of the wooden birdhouses can be used outside. They are vented and a section can be removed for cleaning. Your birdhouse may be decorative and only displayed inside a home or outside during the summer months. If the birdhouse is intended to be used outside, it will need to be sprayed to seal the surfaces.
The deadline for completing the birdhouses is May 27th. Birdhouses completed before the deadline, will be used to promote the event on our website and/or downtown and Willow Point store fronts.
If this is a project you would like to participate in, please contact
Heather at 923-0213 (office hours Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday PM)
